Creating habits. It's a touchy topic. Some folks say it takes 21 days, others say 30 days, yet others claim 60 days. One Harvard study said introduce two habits at once and you're set up to fail. What's a girl to do?

And yet we know that the secret sauce behind many successful people is their daily micro habits. The little things they do every single day that compound. The daily actions they take that create a greater net effect. The consistency with which they execute even the smallest tasks.

In my own life, this was challenging. When the kids were small I could barely figure out where the time was going, much less take control of my routine. Unpredictability was the norm. We traveled and moved from Texas, to Virginia, to England, to DC. When they got older, and we moved back to Texas, I had already sunk into some bad habits, the lack of consistent self care being one of them. Don't get me wrong..... I tried. It just wasn't consistent.

And that was where, years later, I gave myself some grace.

My kids were young and I was a very hands on mom. If they needed me, I dropped everything (like the exercise I was in the midst in). Sure, this might have been a boundary problem, I don't know. But I realized many years later, that I had to give my family room to grow, and going along with the unpredictability of things was part of that process.

Years later, I am trying to create "wellness micro habits." Those measurable chunks of time and tasks that make up our day. I've started with juicing, and taking the Lifelong Vitality Pack.

I'm only instilling one wellness change at a time until it becomes my new norm; executing the change every day until it becomes automatic. I'm also trying to instill one change at a time in my headspace - thinking a new, positive thought and replacing the old tape recorder that keeps running - one thought at a time.

  • take your supplements.... put them right by your toothbrush so you take them right away (60 seconds)
  • apply your favorite essential oils to the bottom of your feet right as you get out of the shower (20-30 seconds)
  • close your eyes, while you're still in bed, and visualize your day (60 seconds)
  • just breathe! (unlimited seconds)
